The three main parts to a good triangle exposure are aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. All elements of exposure have an effect on others. It is like a perfect triangle, if you change one part of the exposure, it's not perfect anymore. ISO is the sensitivity to light of the sensor or film. Aperture is an opening that we adjust to let more or less light hit the digital sensor. Shutter speed controls how long the light comes through the aperture to our digital sensor. For a perfect exposure, our goal is to capture the dynamic range of the scene into our image. So all the parts that make up a perfect exposure have an affect on the other parts. So if you change one part of an exposure, you have to ajdust another to make it perfect again.
